On 11 March, ELA had the honour of being received by Queen Letizia of Spain to mark the 25th anniversary of ELA Spain.
During an emotional meeting, the Queen spoke with Guy Alba (President of ELA International), Carmen Sever (President of ELA Spain) and families, who shared their stories of the immense daily challenges they face due to illness and disability.
It was also an opportunity to discuss the introduction of neonatal screening for leukodystrophies, so that effective treatments can be offered before the first symptoms appear.
Finally, scientists Aurora Pujol, Sergio Aguilera and Fernando de Castro, who specialise in leukodystrophies, provided an update on advances in medical research and on the experimental treatments currently underway.
We sincerely thank Her Majesty for her warm welcome and kindness during this meeting.
