Thanks to Watches for ELA, a family gathering for ELA Italy

From 21 to 24 June 2025, families from ELA Italy gathered at the Hotel Simon in Pomezia for a weekend get-together. Around a hundred people enjoyed activities suitable for all and moments of friendly reunion; a respite made possible thanks to the funds raised by ELA International during the “Watches for ELA” sale in 2024.

Our day at Zoomarine on 21 June was full of excitement. We watched shows featuring dolphins, seals and birds. We learnt about the fascinating features and unique characteristics of different animal species, as well as the importance of conserving natural habitats. We also made the most of all the communal areas, the swimming pools, the relaxation zones, the inclusive rides and the animal enclosures. In addition to the support from the Zoomarine staff, the clown troupe “Comici Camici” entertained our children with activities throughout the day.

The following day saw the ELA Italy general meeting, as well as a meeting with the head of Orchard Pharmaceuticals, who explained gene therapy for metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD) and the ongoing trials for other types of leukodystrophy. Meanwhile, the “Comici Camici” organised entertainment for the children.

We continued our stay at Torvaianica beach. The hotel staff provided constant and discreet support to meet the particular and specific needs of the children affected by the illness.

The bathing facility was equipped with a special chair designed to accommodate children in wheelchairs, enabling them to bathe in the sea in complete safety. All the families were able to enjoy these moments of togetherness and relaxation.

We have received several messages of thanks, which has encouraged us to organise similar events in the years to come.
