ELA Germany’s ninth family respite weekend took place from 30 April to 3 May at the Heinrich-Lübke-Haus, on the shores of Lake Möhne (in the north-west of the country). A total of 24 families, representing 78 participants, took part. This event was made possible thanks to funds raised during the 2024 edition of “Watches for ELA”.
A reunion around the campfire
On Thursday evening, after dinner, the families got to know each other around a campfire.
Activities designed for everyone
Friday began in glorious sunshine with a children’s dance. The morning was spent getting to know one another and chatting.
In the afternoon, the families split into two groups. The first set off on a walk around Lake Möhne with our patron Manuel Andrack, whilst the other went on a boat trip on the lake. The opening of the sailing season on 1st May provided a lively spectacle on the water.
In the evening, everyone gathered for dinner, followed by the children’s ‘“Danse en mai” party, featuring dancing, games and a festive atmosphere.
Relaxation, conversation, games and fun
Saturday was set aside for families to chat about a range of topics, including transport. They had the chance to visit specially adapted vehicles and gather valuable information.
Meanwhile, the children enjoyed creative activities such as finger painting, decorating bags and a modelling workshop using natural materials.
In the afternoon, participants were introduced to therapeutic horse riding. An accessible play area was used widely. At the same time, the ‘Naturally Coloured’ workshop offered the chance to make and experiment with natural colours.
The day ended around a campfire with toast and conversation.
Final in the great wild
On Sunday, some families took part in a forest exploration and discovered nature using all their senses. The weekend ended with a wealth of impressions, encounters and shared experiences.
