This Friday, September 28, 2018 was held the ELA / MLD Research Group consortium.

During the symposium organised by ELA international in Luxembourg in December 2017, new avenues of reflection were set up for medical research on leukodystrophies. Following on from this symposium, Caroline Sevin, pediatrician at the reference center for leukodystrophies and leukoencephalopathies at Kremelin Bicêtre hospital, initiated a work group that she wishes to include in a cycle of several meetings: the ELA / MLD consortium Research Group. This consortium is the result of a partnership between her and ELA International. About fifteen European experts in Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD), clinicians, neurologists, grafters, biochemists, anatomopathologists, microglia specialist, and medical imaging met on Friday September 28, 2018 on the hospital site Cochin, in Paris.

This first day allowed the experts to take stock of all the knowledge of the disease and to discuss the management method for patients with MLD in their various European countries. Three other meetings are planned in 2019 to continue the discussions, after which an assessment will be made to identify the best way of continuing this process. The objective is to obtain a consensus to move towards new therapeutic options and combination treatments, which could concretely lead to a clinical trial.

Caroline Sevin thanked ELA and underlined the importance of ELA’s presence and commitment, its logistical support and its involvement in any projects that may result from these meetings.
